I don't have any lever drags yet, but my first one will either be an okuma Metalloid or a Release SG (soon to be named Truth Reels). The Metalloid is basically in the Avet Raptor class at half the price. And the Release SG, is a single speed lever drag, 30lbs of drag, all machine aluminium, holds like 500 yards of 50lb braid. About $250 for those and Jim Sammons swears by them.

Thanks for all the info guys. If the okuma wear house is still doing that I just may have to replace more than one reel and rod.

If you pick up the Okumas let us know what you think of them after a couple of fish. I'd love to hear your review

I definitely reccomend the avet MXJ, sweet reel perfect size, plenty of power and Made in the USA.
Also pretty easy to maintain and service.

I was thinking Avet but if I can get a high end Okuma for 40% off than it looks like I might be making a trip to Ontario. When and if I do get one I will do a full review of it

Sweet reel, I haven't used it yet but after looking at the specs and giving the reel a good looking over I know I'll like it, I just wish I had bought the "Raptor" in case I want to use braid! ![]() FFY ![]() |

I have several Okuma's and I think the world of them. I have the komodo 364 and the bay sized komodo. I also have the Cedros 15, 10 and the Metaloid 12 (2speed) they are all top of the line.

Okuma's makiara rods are great too if you were looking for a rod
I would have them as my whole arsenal but I wrap my own rods now |
