You're totally nuts; however, depending on your confidence and health, it's possible to go left at the mouth of the harbor and check out the kelp close to shore.

If I do go left and hit the kelps what species would I find? Maybe bring a couple avets instead of just bass gear.

When I was in shoes of similar size to yours....

Sheephead was caught near the surface among kelp stringers using frozen squid tentacles. Sculpin was just off the bottom.
