I didn't spend all this money on a good FF just to mount the xducer in hull or run it on the least detailed settings. I like to see a plankton fart on mine.

Expensive fish finder is nice but not necessary. You got guys out there rolling around with 10g worth of gear on a kayak. Just make sure it is color display and has either 50 or 83 kHz. The lower frequency is what you will mark the big fish on. Get something you don't mind submerging and covering in blood and scales. Someone posted a link to an Elite 5 HDI for $250, pretty good deal.
