This is my go to knot for flouro or mono to spectra, I have never had the knot fail. I've had 40lb mono/flouro break before my knot.
The knot is extremely easy to do, I can do it on the water at LJ with current ripping and not end up in Mexico but if I do I'll get a chance to visit my uncle Don Felipe ![]()

Use the "original" Albright/Alberto/RP knot with flouro and it's always held strong, but with mono, it slips. I'll have to try the new and improved version when fishing with mono.

I found that slippage is usually caused by oily hands/fingers touching the mono/flouro, getting any/all oils off of your hands/fingers before tying the knot will help prevent slippage when cinching the lines together. Another thing that I did notice that helps ~other than washing your hands~ is to pinch the mono/flouro right where it bends and come back around. I believe the tight bend in the mono/flouro causes the spectra to get hung up and allows it to tighten and not slip.

FG knot looks pretty good... if you have the time to tie it, at home or between stops. When you need to tie a new leader quickly and easily and or under pressure, the RP knot or the John Collins wins in my book.

All in the pinch! Just tried it with the pinch, problem solved. Still going to try out the improved version. Always good to see for yourself.

Alberto and Albright are different knots. I prefer the Alberto type with 7 up and 7 down.

I prefer an SPro swivel for my braid to fluoro connections. They are small and extremely strong. They also provide a way for your line to unwind. Unless you are fishing for picky Tuna, you are not going to have any problems.

How so? More turns going up and down? No matter how many turns up and down, the concept is exactly the same. I think I'm gonna do 13 turns and call it the Freddy Krueger knot, or maybe 33 and call it the Freemason knot! LOL, its all the same crap.

I love the tony peña, bob sands, whatever else you want to call it. I like it because it has a tell tale sign if it is tied correctly. The spectra portion of the knot becomes rigid. So you know right away if you have any imperfections. It shares all the advantages of the rp knot with sone of the same drawbacks. As you get above 40lb leader the connection becomes somewhat obtrusive and can get caughts up in the last few guides. I use it on all my setups.

If my mono was slipping I'd try a different knot, add wraps to my knot, check my tying technique, or use different line or leader. I think the last thing I'd do is intentionally put a kink in my line.
