Yes any of the manufactured troughs can be used..."approved" refers to a quick check in the morning of the tournaments to make sure it's not a home made device with their own "short" measurements.
Hopefully Andy at OEX and a few of the other kayak dealers and tackle stores will be stocking them soon. The Hawg Troughs can be found online easily. We will also be giving out a velcro band "the morning of" that can be used to restrain the fish.

Cedros Island
Come and fish the beautiful waters of Cedros Island for just the price of entry and participation in either CCA CAL kayak tournament. Your odds will be really good on this drawing...especially if you fish both tourneys...
For just $60 you will get a ticket on the morning of the tournaments that will put you in a drawing for a trip to Cedros Kayak Fishing with Jeff Marianni. Airfare is included, as well as all ground transportation in Mexico, meals and drinks (excluding alcohol), guided kayak fishing, Hobie kayak, and accommodations. Jeff is very flexible on the dates you can book for this trip. The winning ticket will be drawn at the King Harbor event and the winner will be notified. Here is the view you will see as you approach the airstrip... The Yellows can be really big at the Salt Factory...and all of Jeffs Outback Hobie kayaks are new and have all the gear on board...Lowrance finders, Hobie bait tanks, gaffs, fish clips, VHF radios...it's all there. If the wind is up you can always trailer to the calm side of the island. Where ever you fish on the island you'll probably find a bunch of these guys...

Tourney Prizes...$$$
Steve Pinard has generously offered to sponsor two $500 gift cards to Dana Landing as the first place prize for both Battle of the Bays Tournaments.
Regardless of the number of anglers participating in each event we will provide the following prizes for each of the top 4 finishers. Baja Fish Gear is sponsoring two $250 2nd place gift cards Sportfishing Financial is sponsoring two $125 3rd place gift cards Promar/AHI is sponsoring two $75 4th place gift cards. And the Grand Prize trip to Cedros Kayak Fishing is a drawing for all participants. We have sponsors offering prizes for biggest sand bass and biggest spotty as well as biggest Halibut. I’ll reveal those details as the dates draw closer. We are collecting a great list of raffle prizes…as we get nearer the dates I’ll release a few photos of the many items. Most of the top industry manufacturers are joining in this effort to support the Coastal Conservation Association California and have a couple of fun events. www.battleofthebays.com www.ccacalifornia.com

SPONSORS
The Battle of the Bays sponsor list is getting to be quite impressive and we haven't even visited with all the exhibitors at the Fred Hall Shows yet.
We have so many sponsors coming on board that I'm starting to make up extra categories such as biggest Halibut, Biggest Sand Bass and Biggest Spotty...we may start making up blind boogy sizes for additional prizes...LOL We should have a pretty good raffle at each event....and... remember the bucket list Grand Prize 4 day trip to Cedros Kayak Fishing is a drawing just for participating...you don't even have to catch a fish. We had our first registration on the iAngler site... Thanks Rob!!...so we're off like a herd off turtles... Here is a list of all our generous supporters... OEX, CCA CAL, Cedros Kayak Fishing, Dana Landing, Baja Fish Gear, Hobie, King Harbor Yacht Club, Sportfishing Financial, Promar/AHI, Savage Gear, Okuma, Shimano, One Cool Tuna, Bill Boyce Image, Big Hammer Lures, AFTCO, Todd Burton Art, Danuu Paddle Gear, Kayak Angler Magazine, Get Some Lubricants, HookUp Swm Baits, Blue Wave Jewlery, Scotty Rod Holders, Daryl Morita Gaffs, Jorge Villegas/Coca Cola, Let’s Talk HookUp AM 1070, Fisherman’s Belly, Fred Hall Shows, Western Outdoor News, Island Tackle, Lobster Port, Tattuna Tatoos, BD Outdoors, Pacific Coast Sportfishing, Fish Taco Chronicles, Dell Awards, Bomber Sunglasses, Leadmasters…

This sounds like it could be a fun tournament.
Question - does the $60 registration allow fishing both tournaments? or is it 60 for each. Flyer wasn't clear on this. Also, in reading the rules - Big fish side tournament does not include those fish targeted in the regular tournament (and sharks and rays), so that leaves pretty much halibut as a realistic winner (highly doubt barracuda or WSB will be caught). Am I correct on this? Also no communications of any kind unless I'm calling for rescue - better have the phone in airplane mode, cause if the wife calls it's a disqualification! |

BoB Tournament
The registration is $60 for each event....
These are fundraising tournaments and we need to recoup our cash outlay for the 1st thru 4th place plaques, the food and cleaning supplies purchased, the t-shirt printing and purchase, the flyer and advertising costs, the markers and velcro straps for the CPR, and the iAngler service @ $3/ per angler. The biggest fish side pot includes all legal DFW fish except Sharks, Rays, and Bass...unless you have a crystal ball on species...it will be the biggest fish caught...it will probably be a Halibut but if no Butts are caught...then the biggest fish could be any other species including Rockfish or Sheephead. The communication part of the rules is just to keep some cheating down...we won't have "phone cops" out on the water disqualifying anglers just for using the phone for a call to the wife...Most of the rules were cut and pasted from a few Hobie World Tournaments so some may seem a little overkill.

The Battle of the Bays Tournament award plaques came in during the Fred Hall Show last week.
They look great, nice work Charles / Tattuna! Thank you for all your art work and volunteer time! And thanks to Dell Awards for some nice engraving.

Just a heads up...There is an SWBA tournament that same day in Mission Bay. Not sure if you know that or not. Probably about 40 boats or so. |

Thanks Matt

Eric Bent and I have had a few conversations about coordinating the two events. The SWBA boats are launching at safe light and the kayaks will have a shotgun start at 7am so there shouldn't be a conflict there. The SWBA event is a Spotty only event and the CCA kayak tourney has all three bass included as well as a big fish side pot. Eric seems to think the SWBA weigh-in will be at about 2pm and the CCA kayak cut off for photos and weigh-in is 1pm. Both Eric and myself are encouraging our sponsors that support both events to have a tent or booth on the site and and we're trying to make this a bigger and more fun couple of tourneys and take advantage of all the participants at the two events.
