How do you Scotty?
I'm curious to know what choice of Scotty mounts you guys are using? I have been looking into the Orcas to help troll my lines. After fishing out of my outback and trolling two lines on the rear rod holders, I managed to cross my lines quite frequently especially when I was moving in a "S" pattern. Perhaps an orca can help fix the problem. I was flylining and dropper loop. Double Orcas?? Any insight will be beneficial. Thank you! Tight Lines! |

I fish with double Orcas on my PA14 and also fished with double Orcas on my old Outback. On my PA14 I get a spread of approximately 15' between each line but the the gap between your lines may be more or less depending on what size rods you use and the angel/scope of the Orca
7' rod from Orca to rod tip: approx 6' X 2 = 12' gap between Orcas on PA14: approx 3' If you are mounting them on an Outback you will need to offset them slightly, mounting them on the exactly same spot on opposite sides will only work if you change the angle/scope of the Orca but even if you do that the butt of the rods will be in your way when you are pedaling.

Powerlocks on the gunnels always worked well for me. Basically parallel to the water and nice and low. Good for trolling two lines.

Thanks jorluivil for the quick response and advice. I didn't consider that the rods could potentially hit each other and then still affect my peddling. It makes sense to offset or angle them differently. YakDout thanks for the picture. You have a sweet setup and that what I imagine what the final presentation would be like if I double the orca. Thanks guys. Tight Lines!!

ICAST
I'll be at ICAST next week and I'll see whats new with Scotty...I'll post up if I see something new.
I have both the Orcas and the Powerlocks...I find the Powerlocks more versatile and easier to use for most folks. Scotty works so much better for rod holders but the Ram stuff is great for the electronics.

I like the double Orcas the best. I usually just use one rod holder with a second rod in my hand now that I have peddles. Too many tangles if you can't keep straight.

Wow thank you guys. The pics are awesome. Now I have to decide on the orcas or power locks.

Power Locks:
1. twist and unlock the lock mechanism(or whatever its called) 2. pick rod up slightly 3. slide rod out and aware from rod holder or pick rod straight up to remove from rod holder 4. fight fish Orca: 1. pull rod up in one switch move 2. fight fish

Skip step one
Quote:
Power lock Slide rod out Fight fish Orcas are slightly better, I'll agree, but they are slightly more expensive to. If I would do it over I'd go the orca route for sure but I already got my set up so until I lose or break one, power lock it is. |

Bumping this up again.
Anyone use the scotty #429 gear head mount extender? I am ready to get two for my PA but wondering if they flex too much while trolling a heaving sinker.
