I have to rods that are 6' 6" and one that is 6'. The only problem is reaching far enough in front of the bow when the fish is working around the yak. The 6'6" is no problem it is just long enough but the 6'r I need to lean forward a bit to get it over the nose and the handles on the front to clear. Otherwise casting irons or just working the rod I think works well.

I went with the shorter rods so it makes it easier to land the fish working it closer to the side when you are getting ready to gaff. Also trolling the bait allows the point of the rod to be lower/closer to the water level.

Just my experience and preference.
