I made my gaff with a broken graphite fishing rod...
And rod building epoxy glue....put the hook in just like your gluing a reel seat...then rap some thread and flex coat it...i love its strong lite and has a nice grip.
Squid co has blank fiberglass rods on sale you can use for $15 A BLANK BUY EVERYTHING YOU NEED THERE

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I am not sure I want to make it myself since ordering the parts online can add up plus the time it takes to put it all together might not be too much of a difference....
Flex sounds good to absorb some of the shakes. My old one was an aluminum.

Check out turners they have decent bamboo gaffs, I've rewrapped mine to give it a custom feel. I like the 4ft for reach.
