Gas Mileage?
IF you have enough gas it isn't, plus the wrecks outside MB hold nice pelagic, as well as Point Loma and south.
I have 2wd, key is not to stop on the soft stuff. LJ has plenty of mornings where the surf is ankle high. Checkout the Webcam or use apps like magicseaweed, remember the launch is protected by point( seal beach) so the waves are typically smaller then whats reported at say Scripps. |

2WD here. I gave up unloading/loading on the sand at La Jolla especially with summertime crowds chopping it up and blocking the launch. Easier to park and wheel down for me. Also gives no chance for a thief to walk away with stuff while you're gone.
Mission Bay is a great option. Plenty of fishable area. The channel can get busy and mixed up when the wind and tide are against each other. Either launch you choose watch the conditions and show up early.
