If you like driving and camping and can deal with some cold, Alaska has some great scenery and very kayak-accessible fishing. The Pink Salmon were log jamming to the steps of the hatchery in Valdez not far from my tanker's berth. No fishing within 1000 yds of the Hatchery, but down the road campers were limiting out on salmon from the shore.
The halibut was taken on a diamond jig while waiting for a berth in Cooks inlet. Lots of shelter bays with flat calm conditions -- perfect for a kayak during the summer months. |
