Haha, I can’t imagine a 60+ pound YT from the yak and that’s about what I would expect an AJ of similar size to fight like.

That's about right. Like YT, AJ's look for a structure to break the line off. As hard as they fight, The AJ's cannot equalize like a Tuna can, so once pulled about 100ft up from where ever they were, they start to get the bends, and about 90ft down the fishfinder frequently lights up with air if it's a jack. They will still fight the rest of the way, but it is impeded by air imbalance. Meanwhile, a tuna will fight hard all the way to the end.

That would be interesting to find your Floridian relatives. The overall diversity of California is tough to beat. However, if you don't mind a hot humid climate and love fishing, Florida is the place to be. If you are retired on a fixed income, everything costs less here than in California.

That Mutton snapper in the bottom of your kayak against your leg puts it all in perspective, that's a big cool looking fish. Keep the reports coming in.

During the summer months temps in the 80-90's with 80-90+% humidity. It is not like SoCal where it can be a dry 80 outside and comfortable. 80 degrees with 80 percent humidity is uncomfortable in anything but flip-flops and shorts. The brief 3 cooler months of the year(winter) temps are in the 70's with comfortable humidity. Most the clothing I wear kayak fishing is for sun protection. There might be two or three trips during the colder months when I need a neoprene jacket to stay warm. |
