Sometimes hooks with bigger eyes, are cheaper and more practical for such situations. I like the hooks to be as free and unrestricted as possible on a lure, so that leader looks like an interesting option.

One of my assessments of a good quality bait hook is how small the eye is. Gamakatsu hook eyes are typically tapered steel thinest at the end. Pro Bass
brand hooks are generally cheaper, have bigger eyes that do not taper.
