Shark exhibiting aggressive behavior confirmed off Redondo Beach

A shark sighting temporarily closed a portion of Redondo Beach Monday evening.

A beach closure is in effect due to a confirmed shark sighting exhibiting aggressive behavior just south of the Redondo Pier, Los Angeles County Lifeguards posted on Facebook.

The post did not provide any further details regarding why the shark's actions were considered aggressive.

The sighting was reportedly made around 5 p.m., prompting the one-mile beach closure extending south from the Ruby Lifeguard Tower.

The beach closure was lifted by 7 p.m., but lifeguards will ?continue to monitor the situation, an update on the post read. People on the pier reported seeing the shark eating a sea lion.

Beachgoers were asked to report any further shark sightings to @lacolifeguards.
