I've only fished plastics in the bay. Any suggestions how to use the crankbaits?

Check out any of the recent Newport Harbor POSTS , They have photos with the crankbaits. I found a pull, reel in, pull type retrieve helped. I'm sure there is a better term for that but I am a rookie.
