On my Outback I installed the through hull right at the mast tube, no problems

A lot of people mount in front or behind the sail mast- going through the front hatch. The fins are definately causing turbulence in the water and because of the opening for the drive- some of that is going to be in the form of air/ bubbles. Not sure if it's enough to effect the sonar, but why risk it..
