Personally, I think the money is put to a much better use if it is donated to someone you or others in our group know to have a need. If your friend Tim is one of those people, by all means go for it. If 1K is not enough, give him more.

The cancer society is a great cause but giving directly to needy individuals will likely do more immediate good.

Just my opinion.

I am another one that registered and paid but was unable to actually attend the event. I agree, however, with dsafety's post above.
