Solitude 7/16
Hooked a 7lbs Boner on the Yozuri Plug. Checked it out, thought about keeping it, but put him back hoping I'd hook another later in the evening. Kept going, still looking for bait. During the process, hooked up on a 5lbs Rat YT on the Yozuri. I took my time getting to the rod, thinking it was a boney. It made a short run, it came up and I thought, "YELLOWTAIL, Damn that's a small fish". Thank goodness it popped off at the rail, it would have been on the dinner table. Finally loaded up on the Spanish. Holding in 66 ft of water off of the Hotel. Started flylining and pushing west. Got bit by a gut hooked sandie. Threw another bait back on for a 5.5lbs Calico. The graph showed some really nice marks. Continued to work the area for another calico. Bass seemed to be holding in mid column. Put my new Sealine 20 to use. New Teramar Jig Stick feels really nice - 80MH. New Bait tank battery worked great. May need to replace the FF battery soon.

Interesting.
I spent almost the entire day at La Jolla...not fishing on my yak unfortunately, but picnicking on the grass at La Jolla Cove with the wife and some friends. It was enjoyable enough...I did some snorkeling in and around the cove, listened to the band, etc. But I was keeping an eye on the kayaks out on the water throughout the day, longing to be out there. In the morning (9:30 am or so…when we arrived) there were many, many kayaks out on the water. Dozens of recreational yakkers, plus maybe a dozen or so fishing yaks, plus the usual dozen or so PBers. By the end of the day, between 6:30 and 7:30 PM or so, I saw only one kayaker fishing…way off shore about ¾ of mile perhaps…due west of Boomers beach…fishing in absolute solitude with no one else around. From grey or sand colored yak, it looked like. I wondered…”how’s that guy doing out there, are the yellows biting this evening? Damn I wish I could be out there…” Thanks for the post, I think you may have answered that question, because I believe it must have been you that I was watching out there...oh so enviously. --Raleigh |
