Fishfinder will not "shoot" through hull

be careful with the goop method if you get air bubbles in the goop you won't get a good pic. I saw someone posted transducer in a ziplock bag that has water in it. that might be a good way to test how shoot through hull works on your ff.
if temp is importent to you shoot through is not the way to go.

I have used the goop method 4 different times with no trouble, I like the
zip lock method too...

My FF temp is spot on with the wet mount. I'm sure it depends on how much water/contact the wet mount has.

Your right the temp of the water that's inside the 5" pvc inside the hull of the kayak couldn't dif-fer from that of the surface temp.

The heat loss through the polyethylene hull is why it works. The PVC and cap just keep the water in place. We have compared it to a in the water mount and it read the same.

take a look at this link. this is what i did for my wet mount. i used a container that i had bought lunch meat in from target and just cut out the bottom.
this has worked great for me. it holds the water tight with the lid and also the temp reading has been fairly accurate.
make sure to use a piece of foam to keep the transponder in place in the container. if you don't the transponder moves around and the reading will be off. i made this mistake so learn from me.

Snap lock containers work great as well and you can screw the unit into the lid to hold it in place.

I have used the goop mount and switched to the wet mount. The FF will be much more sensitive with a wet mount. I can watch my weight on my sabiki drop to the bottom and adjust it to what ever depth with the wet mount. This is the best way to get the most out of any FF. Search wet mount and you will see what we are talking about. I am using a 5 inch pvc pipe with a rubber cap held down by a hose clamp. I check the water level before loading up to fish.
