Dana point 3/24/12

Last minute trip found us in Dana at sunrise.
On the way to the receiver we got the chance to say hello to Buttchaser (John) and Bellcon. Nice.
We picked up one kayak scoop of the biggest sardines we've ever seen at the receiver. While awaiting high tide we tried the mouth with a few rakes along the way.
Right before high tide we hit the beach. We had rakes and short, and a few sharks during our time there. I was chatting with George (Jorluivil), when I finally latched onto this 26", 6lber. I must be getting bigger (in the wrong way), because the fish looks smaller:

From a monetary standpoint, $35 in gas, $13 for parking, $12 for bait (with tip), it's an expensive halibut. But, when you compare it to going to the movies for 2 people, it's not much more, what with popcorm, soda, tickets, etc.
So we're left with 3 more additional halibut dinners to the fresh one we had Saturday night, not bad, considering.
Maybe next time we get the big ones.
Here's a shot of the 3+lbs of nice halibut filets we've got to look forward to:
