You can comunicate with anyone on any designated open channel. You can also use it to call in for vessel assist in the event of an emergency. Good piece of saftey equipment especially if you paddle solo.

This one does not float.
I will even include one of those Water proof cases for extra protection.

Even if it floats I would recommend adding a leash to it, the last thing you want to hapen is to not know you dropped it in the water and it floats away. I don't have a floating radio but I've dropped it in the water twice in the last couple of month, saved by a leash.
