I'm from riverside and I started the same way you did. I fished Perris lake quite a few times until I started going to silver wood and I don't really go to Perris anymore only like a 10 minute driving difference depending on how you drive. Silver wood is a great place to learn to fish and yak, wind picks up around noon and you can use it to practice paddling against a strong headwind for when you go to the ocean.
