Wow, Harsh.
I like the taste of fish way more than Lobster, so why do I do it, for the adventure ...... My wife thought I was crazy going out last night. I told her about possible lightning and she's like, Really!!!!!! I just laughed as I knew I would be safe. Safety is always a major concern. I remember last fall paddling into very high winds in La Jolla. My friend kept warning me about the wind, I just laughed it off as the white caps got bigger and bigger. A big one came over the bow and I'm like hmmm, I guess he is right so we turned around and started in. I was in San Diego last night and the conditions were bad, but it sounded much worse at Dana. I do not know the area so I do not know what call I would have made on going out or not. Have fun but be safe. |

I had time to consider my post....
Looking at it again...I now see that you did everything right. Sorry for the mistake on my part. Please keep doing what you are doing. How could I have been so insensitive to your needs for adventure. A big favor to ask: please call the news crew from ch.7 next time you go out for adventures. We could all learn how it's supposed to be done. The words boy dumb ass, and bone head move were not an attack but rather an attempt to illustrate the foolishness of the actions you described. I don't think anyone is questioning your right to seek adventure. We just don't think it's worth the thousands of dollars spent and possible lives lost when the people who told you that you shouldn't go have to rescue you. I highly doubt your float you have with your loved ones is to not report your disappearance as your willing to face the consequences. The reality is if you don't make it home people will be dragged into a dangerous situation just for your right to seek adventure.

In today's UT is a article about a sheriff's search at Lake Sutherland for a kayak fisherman missing since 1:30 PM yesterday. His kayak was found floating upside down. He's reported to be experienced and was known to fish there often.
Apparently he knew what he was doing, made a personal choice, and went fishing in bad weather. I feel sad for his family and the sudden loss of one they love.

Yea that's sad for his family. They found his body today. He had heart problems and a pacemaker, no idea if that had anything to do with it. Take a buddy or don't go!
