Zip ties is a good idea
Clear probably doesn't show as bad maybe ill see if they fit through the hole in my iron.
Before I got the hobie welder, I patched my canoe heating up a butter knife with a propane torch, and put mesh that got the job done to, it was like cauterization of a wound and flattened out some bumps.

I have blue cut outs from my old Malibu double
It's thick and melts slow I thought about cutting it into strips I found my tin snips after I finished the job.
By the way best duck tape ever made is 622 shurtape I personally used to use it to mask new windows on building's. Put it on one time and take it off after finish. No glue residue from tape
