Spooled it with the j braid x4 65# I had. It took 300 yards using my non professional spool method crank the spool down in an assembly with a bolt and some washers and create resistance, then turn drag up on the reel and reel it onto the reel and off of the spool. I topped it off with about 20' leader of 30# mono. I'm going to drop a big weight deep tomorrow and reel it back up to tighten it up the braid and see if I can make the room for a leader. I jammed the lever to full and tested pulling a decent amount of line off and didn't get any dig ins, that was a good sign. Fwiw I typically spool my reels like this and never have issues, I'm wondering if this braid is thicker than it claims. I will need to mic it at some point and find out.

Tested it on Saturday, it casts well and feels good. I might have to bite the bullet and just cast straight braid because I do feel the knot (alberto) pass through the guides as I cast, not a big fan of that and I'm sure its costing me distance despite being early in the cast with my 20' leader.

didn't get any big fish on the iron but a few mackerel in the bait I was targetting did take the jig and that felt good on the rod. I could very easily feel the bite and the rod was soft enough that I could feel the bite and get the hook set just by continuing to reel through but not so soft that it just folded over on itself.

Don’t fret the knot passing through the guides - it’s really not a big deal.

Sounds like an excellent set up.

I'd work on the knots though. PR if you can find a tool. It's tight.

Thanks. My biggest concern with the knot is that it decreases the distance but maybe an FG or PR would hel to reduce that, although the alberto is pretty slim.

Thanks for the heads up, I will see about the pr knot tool. I have seen some videos but never considered it because it needed a tool, but sounds like it may be worth the hassle of having one extra item.
