Most people I know use heavier line, especially if fishing near the kelp. For bait rods, I have 50 or 65 pound spectra with a 25 to 35 pound test flouro. Some guys go even heavier on the leader.
For jig sticks and open water bait fishing your can probably get away with lighter line but in the kelp, spectra is king. Bob |

What he said. You can use the #20 from the SL 20 as backing for the SL 50, then fill both with spectra to fluro leader.
