The Newport Aquatic Center. It's a very easy launch and a little over a mile to the
PCH bridge.

Great report. I wish my kids liked to fish.

Kid - Pro

And he eats like one too!

FYI- All "spotties" were caught on plastics and returned to their homes to fight again another day.....until the MLPA closures go into effect that is.

Can you park your car there and go kayaking on your own kayak, without the aquatic center towing your car away?

I usually just park in balboa island and go kayaking from there there since parking is free.

ok to park

We went into the Center and asked the office about parking. We were given the the "ok" to park and use the beach, maybe because of the absence of people due to the rain? Our polite and positive attitude may have helped also.

they are always that way. But they have "hours" for their gate. You can launch under the bridge. Apparently SW Kayaks "owns" or has the rights to the parking under the bridge. Depending on who is working the rental center, I've been told:
1. not to park OR launch from under the bridge
"this is designated SWK area"
2. Launch but not park
3. wished a fruitful and safe paddle.

Aquatic Center does not close their gates at night and I have been there past 11pm. No problem parking and launching there. PLEASE be respectful and clean so that it stays this way.

The guys under the bridge at the Kayak rental place (they lease their space) told me that they have no probs with launching your kayak there but that the owner of the property does not allow you to park there.

I have been launching from the Aquatic Center for the last 1.5 years and the people who run it are very courteous. Like StinkyMatt said, please respect the other people there and keep it clean. Weekends are busy with SUP, outrigger teams, and kayak rentals all using the same beach area, so be aware you may be waiting in a holding pattern as other users launch and land at the beach.
