Maybe the water is too cold for a red tide? Maybe not....

???

Does anyone know the difference between red tide and just some dirty water???? It seems over the past couple of years that any dirty water that flows into our area is labled "red tide" but is it really??? I can't believe that all dirty water is red tide....thoughts???

sometimes it's just off color but many times we do get a real red tide with rusty water and glow in the night phosphorescence, usually in the spring there is a bloom once the water hits ~60. Good thing about it in La Jolla is that is is usually patchy because of all the water moving in and out of the area more than other spots---many other areas (like north county) it can just camp out and sit for weeks...

Ya one of the coolest things is to go down to the beach when there is a full on red tide and watch the phosphorescence light up the waves.

Josh, after seeing that there were two pages of dialog about red tide I knew something was amiss. I only hope your triple chin fish is a preview of what the rest of us will soon enjoy. Good work in the kelp.
